Vol State OTIEC Certificate Programs
The OSHA Training Institute (OTI) Education Center at Vol State is one of 26 centers comprising a national network of non-profit organizations authorized by OSHA to deliver occupational safety and health training to public and private sector workers, supervisors, and employers.
OTI Education Center Programs are an essential component in OSHA's mission to prevent work-related injuries, illnesses, and fatalities.
Specialist in Safety & Health (SSH)
A fundamental occupational safety and health certificate program. See industry specific program requirements by clicking the respective links below. Courses can be applied toward advanced level CSHO certifications.
A minimum of 2 courses, and at least 52 hours of training, must have been taken with the OTI Education Center at Volunteer State Community College. Transfer other required courses from any OSHA Training Institute Education Center. Proof of successful course completion is required.

Certified Safety & Health Official (CSHO)

Facilities Maintenance Safety Specialist (FMSS)
A certificate program designed for authorized and affected individuals impacted by a facility safety program to properly provide adequate safety and health protection for their workers.
A minimum of 2 courses, and at least hours of training, must have been taken with the OTI Education Center at Volunteer State Community College. Transfer up to 3 OSHA numbered courses from any OSHA Training Institute Education Center. Proof of successful course completion is required.

EM 385-1-1 CP-24 Competent Person Fall Protection Certificate Program
Participants in the EM 385-1-1 CP-24 Competent Person Fall Protection Certificate Program must complete three (3) required courses that include a minimum of 26 contact hours to earn the Competent Person for Fall Protection Training certificate
Upon registering for this EM 385-1-1 CP-24 Competent Person Fall Protection program you will be enrolled in the following courses:
- OSHA #3115 Fall Protection
- OSHA #7405 Fall Hazard Awareness for the Construction Industry
- RSH #9101 EM 385-1-1; 2014 Significant Changes to Section 21 Fall Protection
- EM 385-1-1 CP-24 Competent Person Fall Protection Scheduled Courses
Other Certificate Programs
OSHA’s Safety & Health Fundamentals (SHF)
Participants in OSHA’s Safety & Health Fundamentals Certificate Program must complete a minimum of seven (7) courses, comprised of required and elective courses, that include a minimum of 68 contact hours of training through OTI Education Center courses to earn the certificate in Safety & Health Fundamentals.
- must complete the three Required Courses as listed for a minimum of 39 contact hours of training.
- must complete a minimum of four Elective Courses from the Industry list that include a minimum of 29 contact hours of training.
Courses are transferable and may be completed at different OTI Education Centers.

CP-12 US Army Safety and Occupational Health Career Program
CP-12, or the Safety and Occupational Health Career Program is a career program that supports the technical, managerial and leadership skills for Department of the Army Civilians in 25 occupational series to meet the Army’s current and future Safety and Occupational Health needs.
