International Students

Interested in pursuing a college education in the United States? Volunteer State Community College is here to help you succeed. Vol State offers numerous options for those who seek two-year degrees and for student who wish to pursue certification. International students can take advantage of the Tennessee Transfers Pathway, which allows students to pursue a bachelor’s degree after successful completion of the Associate of Arts (A.A.) or Associate of Science (A.S.) degree.

International Students Application Steps

After submitting your Application for Admission, you will receive an email within 1-3 business days. Send any documents or questions to international@volstate.edu. We admit F-1 international students for the Fall and Spring terms only. Fall document deadline is May 15th and Spring is October 15th.

Provide Official Transcripts

  • Official Final High School Transcript: Transcript will need to be evaluated by an approved NACES accrediting evaluation service The international high school must be equivalent to a regular U.S. high school diploma.
  • Previous College(s): If applicable, transcripts will need to be translated and evaluated by an approved NACES accrediting service. Transfer credit is not automatically awarded for international coursework.

Submit English Language Assessment Scores

Applicants whose native language is not English will be required to take the TOEFL, PTE Academic, IELTS, or Duolingo. To view the minimum required scores, please visit the Academic Catalog. If scores are below the minimum requirement, you will be required to take the VSCC Michigan Test.

Gather Financial Documents

You will need to provide satisfactory evidence that you are financially capable to meet the costs involved while studying at Vol State. International students will be responsible for showing that they have the ability to pay all Out-of-State Expenses. International students are not permitted to work and are not eligible for Title IV funding.

Submit Your International Documents

This will include your I-94 Form (upon arrival in the U.S.), VISA, Passport, and your I-20 (required if currently enrolled at an institution in the U.S.)

Tuberculosis Screening

Must submit official documentation from a licensed physician or other qualified medical authority verifying a negative tuberculosis (TB) screening test.

Health Insurance

Students must purchase health insurance approved by the TN Board of Regents within 30 days of enrollment.
