Vol State Students Shine at Tennessee’s SOAR Awards

Volunteer State Community College was proudly represented at this year’s SOAR Awards, an annual event recognizing outstanding student work and achievement across Tennessee’s community colleges and TCATs. The celebration highlighted the talent, dedication, and leadership of students from across the state and Vol State students stood out in a big way.

Among those honored were Phi Theta Kappa honor society students Candence Zimmerman and Aiden Spisak, whose academic excellence and commitment to service exemplify the highest standards of student achievement. Their recognition reflects not only individual dedication, but also the supportive learning environment fostered at Vol State.

Vol State student musicians also earned statewide recognition. Lane Kiser and Sarah Moore were selected for the prestigious Tennessee Board of Regents Honors Choir, an achievement that speaks to their musical talent and hard work.

The arts were another area where Vol State excelled. Alex Moody continued an impressive streak of artistic success, earning first place in the statewide art contest for the second year in a row. Alex’s painting, “Do you smell fish?”, captured top honors once again—an extraordinary accomplishment that underscores the strength of Vol State’s art program.

We are incredibly proud of our students who are being recognized alongside the best from across Tennessee and all they continue to accomplish! Their achievements honored at the SOAR Awards reflect the passion, perseverance, and talent that define Vol State.

In addition to individual achievements, the college itself received high praise. Vol State was named a finalist for Community College of the Year, a testament to the collective efforts of students, faculty, and staff across the institution.

Congratulations to all of our honorees and nominees for representing Vol State with excellence and Pioneer pride.
