Gallatin, Tenn. — Volunteer State Community College (VSCC) has announced two new leadership appointments aimed at strengthening the college’s focus on student success: vice president of academic affairs and assistant vice president for student success.
Dr. Ramona Yarbrough has been named vice president for academic affairs, effective January 2026. As the college’s chief academic officer, she oversees all instructional programs, academic divisions, the Learning Commons, Library Services, and distance learning. Her responsibilities include strategic planning, program development, budget management, and ensuring academic quality aligned with the Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) and accreditation standards.
A Nashville native and graduate of Whites Creek High School, Dr. Yarbrough brings extensive experience in community and technical college leadership, curriculum development, and accreditation. She most recently served as associate vice president of academic affairs at Georgia Piedmont Technical College. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, a master’s degree in business administration from Norwich University, and a doctorate in higher and postsecondary education from Argosy University. Dr. Yarbrough is also a life member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, reflecting her long-standing commitment to service and leadership.
“Dr. Yarbrough’s dedication to academic excellence and student-focused leadership aligns perfectly with Vol State’s mission,” said Dr. Wendi Tostenson, president of Volunteer State Community College. “Her vision and experience will play a critical role in advancing our academic programs and supporting our faculty and staff.”
VSCC also announced the promotion of Tiffany Summers to assistant vice president for student success. Summers most recently served as director of financial aid, where she led initiatives focused on access, enrollment, retention, and financial aid literacy.
In her new role, Summers oversees enrollment services and student success operations, including Financial Aid and Testing, and works collaboratively across the college to identify and remove barriers impacting student persistence, completion, and transfer.
“We are excited for Tiffany to bring her many years in higher education to this role,” said Dr. Emily Short, vice president for student services. “She truly cares about students and their college experience and will develop programs and processes that contribute to student success.”
Summers holds a master’s degree in business administration from Lipscomb University and a bachelor’s degree in public administration from Harding University.
These appointments reflect Volunteer State Community College’s continued investment in leadership that supports academic excellence, access, and student achievement.
