I recently heard someone refer to Volunteer State Community College as “a second-choice school.” As a community college educator, I’ve heard those kinds of comments before, but they never stop landing a little sideways in my brain.

The idea that community colleges and four-year colleges/universities are inherently different is true, but maybe not for the reasons people commonly assume.

The Pioneer Softball Team Aims To Win

The Vol State Pioneer softball team has been practicing hard on the field, and they have one of the most exciting games of the season coming up. Coach Johnny Lynn has been a softball coach for 28 years, and he has a lot to say about the team. “There’s some really good talent in this league,” he said. “And they’re fun to watch.

Player Kemiah Michel said that the whole team is very close. “We’re all pretty together- a big family,” she said. “There’s not a lot of drama, which I love about this team.”

Dean's List and Honor Roll for Fall 2018

Congratulations to these students for their academic achievement for the Fall 2018 Semester in being named to the Vol State Dean's List or the combined Dean's List and Honor Roll. The Dean’s List recognition is awarded to students that have completed a minimum of twelve collegiate-level hours with at least a 3.750 GPA during the awarding term.
