[Gallatin, Tennessee – January 3, 2025] Volunteer State Community College (Vol State) is pleased to announce a dynamic new partnership with the University of Tennessee’s Center for Industrial Services (UT CIS) that will result in the evolution of the Volunteer State OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) Training Institute Education Center (OTI Ed Center). This innovative collaboration will significantly expand access to OSHA-authorized training programs, benefiting businesses and workers across Tennessee and the Southeast US.
“Born out of a strategic alliance with the federal OSHA program, the Volunteer State OTI Ed Center is uniquely positioned to enhance regional alignment while continuing to deliver the exceptional training services for which both institutions are known,” says Nick Bishop, Vol State’s Vice President for Economic Development and Strategies. “By pooling expertise and resources, Vol State and UT CIS aim to strengthen workforce safety through specialized education and advanced training solutions.”
The center will serve as a powerhouse of safety education, offering businesses and industries access to a wealth of knowledge and practical training. With decades of experience in occupational safety and workforce development, both partners are poised to meet the increasing demand for safer work environments in an ever-evolving marketplace.
“The partnership represents a commitment to enhancing workplace safety through education, training and certification,” said Dustin Housewright, Director of Health, Safety and Emergency Preparedness for UT CIS. “Leveraging the combined strengths of Vol State’s community-focused approach and UT CIS’s industry expertise, the Volunteer State OTI Ed Center will deliver cutting-edge OSHA training courses meeting the demands of today’s workforce.”
Training will cover critical areas such as construction safety, general industry practices, hazardous materials handling, fall prevention, and electrical safety. With flexible in-person and video conference training options, the center will cater to industries such as manufacturing, healthcare, construction, and beyond. Besides training, the center will also launch proactive outreach programs designed to increase awareness of OSHA regulations and help businesses foster safer, more productive environments.
“Vol State has earned a reputation for leading OSHA training throughout the Southeast,” Bishop notes, “while UT CIS brings unparalleled technical expertise and industry connections. Together, this partnership will create a ripple effect, extending essential safety training to more workers and employers than ever before across Tennessee and the Southeast U.S.”
Upcoming OSHA courses are currently available through open enrollment via video conference or in-person. Private contract classes can also be delivered at a worksite, on campus, or via video conference, customized to meet an organization’s specific needs.
