The Tennessee Credit Union is looking for a detail oriented, self-starter to fill the Accounting Specialist position. In this position the ideal candidate will have an extremely high level of accuracy, strong attention to detail, quick learner,strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
Perform a range of Accounting and analysis functions; responsible for coordinating departmental processes. Provide financial reports as requested and assist with other department duties as assigned. Perform responsibilities in a manner that helps provide an exceptional member experience.
This position will be based out of our Main Office (8th Avenue South) location in Nashville. Hours are Monday - Friday: 8:00-5:00, but may vary based on business need. EOE
The following duties are normal for this position, but should not be interpreted as all inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Support the Accounting Department in a manner that contributes to the team effort and helps provide an exceptional member experience.
Perform general accounting functions and assist with accrual accounting aspects. These include creating various monthly financial statements and analyses, assisting with preparation of quarterly Call Reports, and a variety of other Finance/Accounting projects.
Function as primary Accounting/Finance department contact for functions as directed by the Vice President Accounting/CFO.
Provide assistance to Transaction Settlement Control Analyst and serve as backup to those duties.
Provide assistance to General Ledger and Accounts Payable Manager and serve as backup on those duties.
Be familiar with various Tax, Fixed Asset "FAA," and daily member insurance duties in order to be a secondary backup if needed.
Prepare reconciliations of various assigned accounts and review selected accounts reconciled by others.
Periodically update templates and related schedules required for annual CPA firm audit analysis.
Perform all other duties as assigned to aid in effective Accounting and Finance Department functions.

Broad knowledge of GAAP in a computerized environment with accuracy and attention to detail.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office with an emphasis in Excel
Ability to communicate effectively in English orally and in writing; communication skills in other languages also desirable.
Background in accounting and/or finance required with credit union or banking experience preferred.
College degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance with 1-2 years of related experience required.
Ability to work in non-smoking environment.
